Two days, two posts. And TGTV goes international!

So Amandapants has put my involvement with TGTV in cynical terms, placing the over-under at three days (or was it three posts?) but I'm feeling pretty motivated, RSI be damned. One of the cool things about slowly migrating people to my personal blog site - while still giving lots of love to The Bastard Machine - is that over here I have a better sense of numbers, locations, etc., thanks to the cool gizmo that is Google Analytics. Already TGTV has had visitors from Canada, Hong Kong, Japan, Australia and the Netherlands and all across the United States. A pretty good start to what would best be described as a "soft opening," as they say in the restaurant biz. I kind of like this idea that people immediately caught on to - that TGTV will have some bonus material, like those easter eggs we all love so much, and work as a kind of added value site to TBM. Given that, I'll post a couple of bits of "breaking news" right here, right now:

I'll be doing the deconstructions of "The Wire" here on TGTV. Look for that coming up. And for those who missed (or even those who attended) my interview thing at the JCC in SF awhile back, I'm going to do it again in September or October. And more appearances and whatnot will be announced here later. I'm still interested in the flash mob hootenanny to be held on College Ave. somewhere, perhaps in the coming weeks for some holiday wassailing. BYONT (bring your own name tags).

More later.

You know, if you could get the web elves at work to stick the right little snippet of Google code on the main blog page, you can track that with Analytics as well. (I suppose "elves" might not be the right term...) It's literally like five or six lines of code that go at the bottom of the page and don't even show up to the public.

Then again, I guess it would depend on what they'd ask in return.

Party in the 'hood! I'll be there.

Dude, someone with HBO needs to invite me over to watch season 5 of the Wire. I am seriously flipping out over the prospect of being caught up with show and then missing out on the last season live. What if it get ruined for me? Not that I think there is going to be any big revelations in the finale, but there could be some death. Say it ain't Bubs or Omar, please. How about this: will trade baby-sitting hours for the Wire? I am desperate peoples.

Grats about the new blog - more ways to feel the TG-love!

Last year someone leaked the critics' pre-release dvds of season 4 on the internet. The episodes even had an identifying code in the corner of the shot. I wonder if that critic ever heard from HBO about that...

I couldn't resist the leaked episodes. I watched the whole season in two marathon nights, then watched each episode at least two more times as the season progressed.

I'm hoping I can be more disciplined this year.

Maybe if Tim just showed the opening episode at the Parkway?

The new site is nice and all, but do I have to enter the hallocinogen word every time? Am I doing something wrong?

Am I the only one disappointed by the teaser Wire videos on Amazon?

Did David Simon really oversee these? I am hoping they are merely throw-away teasers that somehow slipped past Simon. The acting stinks. What is McNulty doing?

Proposition Joe was around 11 years old in 1962? So he's in his mid-50's now? That doesn't seem right.

These videos almost seem like You-Tube homage, bordering on parody. I'm sure some people will love having The Wire back in some form, but these videos aren't The Wire that I remember.

No more live events till next September/October? Would this take the place of the regular hootenanny, or in addition? I was hoping that you'd bestow your wisdom on us more than once a year. And congrats on the new blog, btw. Let freedom reign...

Just plopped down in the chair after picking up the Season 4 DVD's of The Wire on the way home - only to be topped by your having Season 5.

Word to the wise (and I THINK you know who I mean), do-not-jump-ahead. Remember the agony of having to scrub your memory and carefully re-watch each episode so that your deconstruction didn't seem too clairvoyant? Oh yes you did. Pace yourself. However, if you get the urge to shoot it all up your arm at once, give me a holler - no sense facing that monkey alone!

I watched the Amazon Prequel teasers and found them worthwhile. Omar had a code from the get-go.

Congrats on the new blog, keep up the great work on TBM and how about a round of golf sometime soon?

I wish I lived close enough for a flash mom hootenanny. Maybe once I win Powerball...haha. But remember, if you can do something for 21 days you wil have established it as a habit. So if you can blog every day until Christmas, you're set!

lieber: what hallocinogen(ic) word are you referring to? (of course, I'm someone who doesn't remember the 60's, so maybe that's the issue).

Thanks, TG, for pointing out the link on TBM to your conversation with Stephen Colbert (it fits snuggly onto a CD). He proved to be a very funny man without benefit of a script. And your talk with the PodFather Ricky Gervais has me pining for the X-tras special.

And thanks for another place for all us Loyal Bastards to hang out when you're too busy with family stuff (or with work that actually provides said family with roof & food).

Just to repeat our only Xmas gift wish--the long-promised Keith Olbermann podcast!!

I recently learned this from a friend, but maybe everyone already knows it: You can alter your TiVo skip forward button to advance in 30 second increments by pressing these simple commands on your remote.

Tivo 30 second skip hack: a) press "Select" b) press "Play" c) press "Select" d) press "3" e) press "0" f) press "Select"

Perfect for Football viewing.

hickcity: I found out about that tivo hack ages ago (read about it in the Chron!) and it worked like a charm until I had to have my tivo replaced. It doesn't work anymore! I think it may work on some older tivos but they may have "fixed" it on newer models.

Interesting. I went to post a comment and the software thought I was Megan Morrone, host of the popular parenting blog "Jumping Monkeys." (An excellent, funny blog for parents of young children. Also, an excellent podcast.) Seems you may have some sort of software glitch. Anyway, I'm not Megan, and welcome back.

By the way, I'm loving the strike. It's enabled me to get the number of saved shows on my 3 DVRs down below 100.

Hey Tim, good to hear from you! (fjcastro on the TBM) Hope the holidays are treating you well. I am up for the flash mob on College; perhaps we can start at my place with a little Alexander Valley Zinfandel. My girlfriend and two golden retrievers would love to meet you (although the g-friend thinks the TV is rotting my brain!)
